Solidarity with DHL workers in Bahrain

Members and leaders of two transport unions – members of the ITF-affiliated General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions – have been targeted for court action following the protests that took place earlier this year. Both sets of workers are accused of violating national security.

It is understood that the government has started proceedings against several leaders and members of the DHL Trade Union who have been given notice to attend court hearings on 26th October, accused of violating national security.

Although seventy per cent of the 200 workers from the airline Gulf Air who were dismissed have been reinstated, many of them have not been restored to their original jobs and none of the union leaders have been reinstated. ITF remain very concerned that the Gulf Air union leaders will also have to answer charges of violating national security on 15^th November.

There is particular concern for these workers following the recent detention of doctors, the prosecution in the military courts of teachers and journalists as well as the dismissal of many other workers.
