The bank workers' national strike reaches its fourth day with an increase in the number of finance sector workers that are participating from across Brazil.

On Friday 9th, mobilisations expanded to administrative centres, where most employees are located. A total of 10,818 workplaces stopped their activities.

To really get an idea of the situation, in the capital city of  Sao Paulo alone, more than 52,000 workers from 700 workplaces (23 administrative centres and 677 branches), crossed their arms to push banks to present  a decent proposal.

According to the president of Contraf-CUT, Roberto Von der Osten, workers'  dissatisfaction is obvious. We are visiting the increasing number of  workplaces where employees have stopped their activities, and we are listening to the outrage of the bank workers.  They state, among other things, that it was an unfair and demotivating proposal, and criticize banks with phrases like "then  they conduct internal motivation campaigns and send us notes saying they value us. Not true! Without inflation and no real profit it's not possible. This is exploitation. Exploitation is unforgivable". We hope that bankers hear these protests and change their stance."

Without a decent proposal, which envisages a recovery from inflation and real salary increase, the strike will continue in the 26 States of the Federation and in the Federal District, with the participation of branches  and administrative centres throughout the country.

Inordinate profits and interests

The banks are primarily responsible for the strike. It is a sector that has all the conditions needed to give their workers a decent adjustment, given that the profits amounted to R$ 36.3 million in the first half of the year alone.
